Private GP Services UK Ltd offers earwax removal by ear irrigation, also called syringing. A clinician takes a history, examines your ears, explains the procedure and uses warm water through an electronic irrigator to flush out wax where appropriate.

Before an earwax removal appointment, apply 2-3 drops of olive oil to the affected ear or ears three to four times daily for at least 5-7 days, if required. Olive oil can be bought over the counter from a pharmacy.

Children must be 13 years or older to use the earwax removal service.

Earwax removal may not be carried out if you have had pain or middle ear infections in the last 3 months, recurrent ear infections, previous operations around the ear, or a suspected or diagnosed perforated eardrum. You can discuss this with the clinician if you are unsure.

Clinical tests and vaccines are charged in addition to appointment time. Private sickness certificates can be issued within a consultation at no additional charge if required, and the practice can complete claim forms for referrals.
