About Oak Osteo
Oak Osteo is for people of all ages seeking osteopathy, cranial osteopathy, Pilates and pelvic floor support in Ashbourne. The practice sees people with low back pain, chronic back pain, neck pain, sciatica and other nerve pain, headaches, shoulder pain, frozen shoulder, knee pain, arthritis, fibromyalgia, muscle spasms, pulled muscles, ligament sprains, tennis elbow, golfers elbow, sports injuries and migraine prevention.
Care is provided by osteopath Laura O'Connor B.Ost. Her work includes structural and cranial techniques, soft tissue techniques such as myofascial cupping, joint articulations, stretching and massage. She also has experience with rehabilitation exercises and ergonomic desk set-up advice.
For lower back pain and sciatica, treatment may include articulation, stretching and massage for the spine, pelvis and legs, alongside advice on lifestyle changes and exercise. For neck pain, the practice may use manual therapy, stretching and strengthening exercises, with advice on posture and spinal health.
Oak Osteo also covers chronic pain and related conditions. Laura has experience working with people diagnosed with CFS/ME, fibromyalgia, Long Covid and hypermobility/EDS, and has trained in the Perrin Technique. The practice may also discuss pain management approaches such as hot and cold therapies, desk set-up recommendations, braces and supports, mobility work, strengthening exercises, nutrition and stress management.
Women's health is a stated area of care, including support around puberty, pregnancy, post-natal recovery and menopause. Laura has undertaken post-graduate study with Everything Woman for female pelvic health issues, and can carry out internal pelvic floor assessments if required. The practice also offers a Pelvic Floor Stimulator service, with Ultra Tesla Seat and Tesla Seat appointment options, as well as scar therapy initial and follow-up appointments.
Laura graduated from The College of Osteopaths in 2021 and has practised as a manual therapist since 2019. She also works as a teaching assistant and lecturer at The College of Osteopaths at Derby University.
