About Children's Travel Doc

Children's Travel Doc provides telephone travel health consultations for children, families, young people and pregnant travellers. Care is provided through the Travel Doc Telephone Clinic.

The service covers travel medical advice and travel documents in a single consultation. It can provide fit-to-fly letters for airlines and tour groups, and letters for airports, airlines or tour providers for people travelling in pregnancy or with complex medical issues or medical devices. It also has links to a notification service for notified copies of travel documents and permission to fly for minors travelling alone.

Travel health advice can cover well babies, infants, children and teenagers, including children and teenagers travelling alone. It also covers pregnant women and those trying to conceive, severe allergies and Epipens for travel, doctors' letters for ADHD medication, impaired mobility, oxygen, insulin, colostomies, immune deficiencies, post-transplant travel, HIV and other infections, LGBTQ teen travel, medical and healthcare student electives, and groups of young people.

Consultations may include travel logistics and in-flight comfort, such as sleep in travel, jet lag, in-flight ear pain, child ID, what to do if a child gets lost, travel insurance, breast or bottle milk in airports, airport scanners in pregnancy, and in-flight radiation in pregnancy. The service also covers travel anxiety, screen time, routine disruption, motion sickness and culture shock.

Destination health advice includes mosquito bite prevention for malaria, dengue and Zika, insect repellent, insect and tick bites, heat rash in babies, tummy bugs, dehydration, malaria medication options by age, rabies vaccination and animal bite management. Vaccination support includes planning travel vaccines by destination risk, yellow fever entry vaccine requirements, vaccine side effects, routine vaccines such as flu and COVID, and vaccines given with distraction techniques and technology.

Safety and medical travel advice can include water and pool safety, drink spike safety for young people, allergies, asthma, ADHD, restricted medication overseas, extra medication for travel, LGBTQ travel questions and replacing lost medicines abroad. Children's Travel Doc also offers travel health boxes and travel items such as baby mosquito nets, tick removers, hand sanitiser and age-specific travel kits.
