Cowal Ear Care

Cowal Ear Care is for patients needing ear health assessment and ear wax removal. It provides ear irrigation, microsuction and manual ear wax removal without referral.

Care is offered at its clinic in Dunoon and by home visit in outlying areas. Emergency out-of-hours ear care appointments are available.

An Ear Health Assessment includes an ear examination to check whether wax removal is appropriate. The ear wax removal specialist discusses a treatment regimen based on your needs. Past medical history and previous ear wax removal history may be considered. Consent and pre-treatment fluid can also be covered before treatment.

Ear irrigation uses an electronic irrigator with a controlled flow of warm water into the ear canal. The water breaks down and dislodges wax, then flushes it into a collection tank.

Microsuction uses a binocular microscope and low-pressure vacuum tube to remove excess ear wax. It may be recommended after eardrum perforations or mastoid operations.

Pre-treatment cerumenolytics are available for stubborn ear wax. Cowal Ear Care also provides combined water irrigation and microsuction for one or both ears.
