The practice sees patients for musculoskeletal pain and related symptoms, including back pain, sciatica or trapped nerve, neck pain, muscle spasms, neuralgia, fibromyalgia, sports injuries, arthritic or rheumatic pain, neck induced headache, migraine prevention, frozen shoulder, shoulder pain, elbow pain, knee problems, ankle and foot problems, sacroiliac problems and cramp.

Care can include manual therapy, health information, self-management advice and exercises. Osteopathic assessment may look at the painful area and associated areas that could be contributing to the symptoms.

At a first appointment, Greg takes a case history covering medical history, lifestyle and current symptoms. Examination may involve assessing the area causing discomfort and, where relevant, other areas that may be linked to the problem. A diagnosis and course of treatment are then discussed.

Treatment may include hands-on techniques focused on releasing tension, stretching muscles and mobilising joints, usually alongside exercises to do at home and advice on managing symptoms. On most occasions treatment begins at the first appointment, although further investigations such as blood tests or scans may sometimes be needed first. If an illness is identified that cannot be treated with osteopathy, referral to a GP or another appropriate health professional may be advised.

Greg Ball qualified from the British School of Osteopathy, now Health Sciences University, in London in 1990. He has worked in both NHS and private practice over more than 30 years of practising osteopathy. Osteopaths in the UK are regulated by the General Osteopathic Council and are trained to degree level.
