Kate Blanch

Kate Blanch treats pain-related musculoskeletal problems with osteopathy, including neck and back pain, arthritis, sciatica, headaches, joint and muscular pain, vertigo, repetitive strain and overuse injuries, pregnancy-related discomfort, tendonitis, frozen shoulder and sports injuries.

Treatment may include movement of muscles and joints, massage, joint manipulation and mobilisation, sports rehabilitation, exercises, stretches and cranial sacral therapy. Kate sees patients of all ages, including babies, infants, children, pregnant women and seniors.

During a first consultation, Kate asks about symptoms and factors that may have contributed to the problem, as well as lifestyle, daily activities and hobbies. Examination may include testing muscles and joints, and asking the patient to perform simple movements so that movement pattern and posture can be assessed. Clothing around the symptomatic area may need to be removed, and patients may bring shorts or a vest if preferred.

The practice includes advice and support, with exercises and nutrition discussed as self-help measures where relevant. If osteopathy is not appropriate, Kate states that a referral will be made with the patient's consent to an appropriate consultant. Parental consent and chaperones are required for all patients under 16.

Kate trained for four years at the European School of Osteopathy in Kent and qualified in osteopathic medicine in 1992. She is registered with the General Osteopathic Council and is a member of the Institute of Osteopathy and the Academy of Physical Medicine.
