About mPOWER Physiotherapy
Kat Barrington provides women’s pelvic health physiotherapy at mPOWER Physiotherapy, covering pregnancy and postnatal problems, pelvic floor dysfunction, perimenopause and menopause concerns, scar therapy and Pilates. The practice is based at a discreet home clinic in Tetbury, with Pilates also associated with St Mary’s Primary School, Dolphin’s Recreation Centre and Kemble Village Hall.
Care is for women with symptoms and diagnoses including pelvic organ prolapse, urinary or faecal incontinence, overactive bladder, vulvodynia, vaginismus, dyspareunia, endometriosis, adenomyosis, and issues before or after gynaecological surgery. The practice also works with pelvic, abdominal, hip, groin and vulval pain, pain during sex, bladder urgency or frequency, leaking wee, wind or poo, bulging, heaviness or dragging, pregnancy, postnatal recovery after vaginal birth or caesarean section, and scarring after surgery or trauma.
Assessment begins with a detailed discussion of symptoms, concerns and priorities. It may include looking at movement and breathing, muscle strength and function, and pain or restriction using hands-on techniques. An internal vaginal examination may be recommended where appropriate, but it is not essential and is carried out only with informed consent. A chaperone can be arranged for an internal examination.
Treatment options include education about the condition, exercises for strength, co-ordination and mobility, massage and mobilisations, breath work, scar therapy, hypopressives, and advice on adjuncts and biofeedback. Pilates forms part of the practice’s offer, alongside pelvic health physiotherapy and scar treatment.
