About OsteoFirst
Amy Mead provides osteopathy and medical acupuncture at OsteoFirst in Shrewsbury. She has practised osteopathy for eight years after completing a Master’s degree at Swansea University.
OsteoFirst treats musculoskeletal pain, sports injuries, age-related pain, pregnancy-related concerns, work-related injury and nerve pain. Conditions listed by the practice include arthritic pain, frozen shoulder, tennis elbow and golfer’s elbow, headaches, joint pain, hip or knee pain, lower back pain, sciatica, neck pain, TMJ and jaw pain, and postural problems.
Osteopathic treatment starts with a detailed case history covering symptoms, how they have developed and medical background. This is followed by a physical examination before treatment, if appropriate. Techniques may include soft-tissue massage, joint mobilisation, muscle energy techniques and joint manipulation.
Medical acupuncture can be used alongside osteopathic treatment or as a stand-alone treatment. OsteoFirst uses western medical acupuncture. Treatment involves fine needles being inserted into the skin for a short period, with manual or low-voltage electrical stimulation used in some cases.
A doctor’s referral is not needed. Patients can bring a relative or friend to an appointment. The practice is wheelchair accessible, with a disabled parking bay outside, a ground-floor clinic and accessible toilet facilities.
