Somacare Osteopathic Clinic

Somacare Osteopathic Clinic is in Harpenden and has one site, providing osteopathy for adults and children. Care is provided by Lauren Storey Bsc(hons)OstMed DPO ND, who started at the clinic in 2010 and took over ownership in 2017. The clinic opened in Harpenden in 2008.

The clinic provides hands-on osteopathic care, including manipulation, stretching, mobilisation and massage. Treatment is based on assessment of the area of discomfort and contributing factors such as past injuries, health concerns and lifestyle. The clinic also provides lifestyle and exercise advice tailored to the individual patient.

Clinical areas named by the clinic include generalised aches and pains, tension, fibromyalgia, arthritic pain, acute and chronic back pain, neck pain, shoulder and elbow pain such as frozen shoulder or tennis elbow, sciatica, minor sports injuries and tensions, muscle spasms, headaches arising from the neck, migraine prevention, circulatory problems, digestive issues, neuralgia, and minor postural imbalances related to pregnancy or work-related stress.

Somacare Osteopathic Clinic offers osteopathy, paediatric osteopathy and cranial osteopathy. Paediatric osteopathy is provided for babies and children, with Lauren's training covering babies from a few hours old, children up to the age of 18 and women throughout pregnancy. Cranial osteopathy uses gentle, non-invasive, non-manipulative light-touch techniques and may be used for young children, newborn infants, patients who prefer lighter hands-on work, or alongside other osteopathic techniques.

Lauren completed a four-year course at the British College of Osteopathic Medicine and received her Bsc(hons) Osteopathic Medicine in 2008. She later trained at the Osteopathic Centre for Children, gaining a Diploma with distinction in paediatric osteopathy, and worked there for 10 years as a clinical teacher and lecturer. Her stated specialisms include paediatric and obstetric osteopathy. She has also completed more than 850 hours of continuing professional development, including cranial techniques through the Sutherland Cranial College and foundation-level training in the Classical approach through the Institute of Classical Osteopathy.

Lauren is registered with the General Osteopathic Council, registration number 6973, and is a member of the Institute of Osteopathy.
