The Medical Rooms

The Medical Rooms is a private GP practice in Bangor, operating from one clinic for patients in the North Down and Ards area. It provides face-to-face GP appointments for routine health concerns, acute illness, specific symptoms, monitoring of chronic health conditions and general check-ups.

Patients can be seen for acute infections such as sore throat, ear infections, sinusitis, chest infections, flu, skin infections and urinary tract infections. GP appointments also cover moles, rashes and skin conditions including eczema, dermatitis, acne and psoriasis, as well as ENT symptoms such as hayfever, rhinitis, postnasal drip, persisting sore throat or hoarseness.

The GP service also covers respiratory issues, abdominal pain, altered bowel habit, palpitations and urinary problems such as urgency, frequency, poor flow, recurrent UTIs, nocturia and incontinence. Appointments may include assessment of symptoms, prescriptions, sicklines and referral to scans, procedures, consultants or other specialists where needed.

Named services include Health Check Appointments, Women’s Health Appointments, Men’s Health Appointment, Mental Health Appointment and Smear HPV Appointment. Health screening is for patients without symptoms and includes BMI, waist circumference, blood tests, blood pressure check, cardiovascular risk assessment and GP feedback through an online patient portal.

Women’s health appointments cover abnormal bleeding, cyclical problems, pelvic pain and concerns related to PCOS. The female GPs have advanced training in perimenopause and menopause. The Smear HPV Appointment is for routine asymptomatic smear screening and is performed by a female GP. Mental health appointments cover stress, anxiety and depression, with support plans that may include counselling, CBT or medication.

Care is provided face to face, with evening and weekend appointments available. The Medical Rooms uses a pay-as-you-go private GP model without a long-term plan or membership. Its own guidance says acute chest pain, acute breathing difficulties, pregnancy-related conditions, accidents or trauma including head injuries, dental problems and chronic pain should be managed through the appropriate emergency, maternity, dental, usual GP or specialist service.
