About The Specialised Clinic
The Specialised Clinic treats pelvic health problems linked with the pelvis, pelvic floor and cancer recovery, with physiotherapy care from Gemma. The clinic covers pregnancy and antenatal care, postnatal and fourth trimester recovery, menopause, bladder and bowel symptoms, pelvic floor and prolapse, men's health, and pre-surgery and post-surgery rehabilitation.
Care includes pregnancy physiotherapy assessments and follow-ups, pelvic girdle pain or pain in pregnancy assessments, caesarean birth preparation, and birth preparation and recovery planning. Postnatal appointments include abdominal assessment, specialised postnatal assessment, forceps, ventouse and perineal tear recovery, C-section scar assessment and treatment, and return to running or sport assessment.
For bladder, bowel and pelvic floor concerns, the clinic offers new patient bowel consultations, complex case consultations, transanal irrigation teaching, bowel PTNS and bladder PTNS consultations, bowel abdominal massage for constipation support, pessary fitting trials and pessary reviews for existing patients. Microbiome testing is also available, including a microbiome testing and follow-up package and a home microbiome test with in-clinic review.
Menopause and vulvovaginal concerns are part of the clinic's work, with menopause specialised assessments, menopause complex case consultations and vulvovaginal assessments. Men's health appointments include new patient consultations, prostate pre-surgery consultations, prostate post-surgery rehabilitation, erectile dysfunction and sexual dysfunction consultations, and vacuum pump consultations.
Care is available face to face in Peterborough and online through virtual consultation rooms. The clinic also offers online weekly and fortnightly physiotherapy-led rehabilitation programmes, as well as online new patient consultations and follow-up appointments.
Gemma graduated from Coventry University with a first class honours degree in Physiotherapy. She has completed masters level certificates in the treatment of continence and in acupuncture, has completed training with the British Menopause Society, and has studied the psychosexual impact of pelvic health with the Institute of Psychosexual Medicine. The clinic is a registered provider for a number of major health insurance companies.
