Trichology Specialist

Dawn provides trichology consultations at Trichology Specialist Limited in Ossett, covering hair and scalp problems. Trichology is the study of the hair and scalp, including the diagnosis and treatment of diseases and disorders affecting them.

The clinic covers genetic thinning, male and female pattern hair loss, alopecia areata, telogen effluvium, traumatic alopecia, scarring alopecia, diffuse alopecia and children’s hair problems. Scalp and hair conditions listed by the clinic include psoriasis, seborrhoeic eczema, pityriasis amiantacea, folliculitis, contact dermatitis, hair shaft disorders, trichotillomania, tinea capitis and pediculosis capitis, also known as head lice.

A trichology consultation includes discussion of hair and scalp concerns, hair care routine, medical history, lifestyle and nutrition. Dawn then examines the hair and scalp before advising on management or treatment options.

Management and treatment plans are made for the individual case. Options may include products or services provided in house, or referral to other services. Where a prescription or biopsy is needed, Dawn may work with the patient’s GP or dermatologist by providing information and suggestions.

The clinic can also advise on referral routes such as hair restoration services, hair replacement pieces including wigs, extensions and weaves, and support for people who have lost hair during chemotherapy treatment.

Dawn trained with the Institute of Trichologists in London and is a registrant of the Institute of Trichologists London. She joined the Institute’s education team as a Tutor in 2022 and is also the working owner of a hair salon.
