Private menopause consultation
An appointment to discuss menopause or perimenopause symptoms, and the options for managing them.
## What is a menopause consultation?
A menopause consultation is an appointment with a private GP to talk through symptoms of the
perimenopause or menopause, review your history, and agree what to do next. Where it is clinically
appropriate, that can include hormone replacement therapy (HRT); where it is not, it can just as
easily be lifestyle support, treatment for a specific symptom, or onward referral.
- A full discussion of your symptoms and history
- Advice on the options, including HRT where appropriate
- Tests where they would change the plan
- A follow-up to review how treatment is working
## Why go private for menopause care?
Menopause care is rarely settled in one appointment. Going private usually means a longer first
consultation, continuity with the same clinician, and follow-up booked when you need it rather than
when a slot appears.
- Longer appointments, so there is time to cover everything
- Continuity with a clinician who knows your history
- Follow-up on your timetable
## What happens in the appointment?
The clinician will ask about your symptoms, your cycle, your medical and family history, and what
you have already tried. They may check your blood pressure and weight, and arrange blood tests if
those would change the decision. You should leave with a clear plan and a date to review it.
