No. Private GP appointments do not require you to register with the practice or to leave your NHS GP. You keep your NHS registration exactly as it is.
Yes. A private GP can issue a private prescription, which you take to any pharmacy. Private prescriptions are paid for at the pharmacy's own price rather than the NHS charge, so it is worth asking what a medicine will cost.
Only with your consent. Private clinicians write to your NHS GP if you ask them to, and it is usually sensible where treatment is ongoing so your records stay complete. You decide.
Yes. Private GPs can arrange tests and refer on to specialists. A referral made privately usually leads to private care; if you want to be seen on the NHS instead, discuss that at the appointment, because the route back is not automatic.
Yes. Every doctor practising in the UK must hold a licence to practise from the General Medical Council (GMC), whether they work privately or in the NHS, and you can check any doctor on the GMC's public register. Clinics providing private GP services in England are also regulated by the Care Quality Commission.
