How booking on Quokka works

Quokka is a marketplace, not a clinic. You use it to find a private practice, see what they charge and when they are free, and book: the care itself is provided by the practice you book with.

Finding an appointment

1. Say what you need and roughly where. Search by the kind of clinician (a GP, a physiotherapist, a dentist) and a town or postcode.
2. Compare on price and time. Results show named clinicians with the practice's own price for that appointment and the times they have free, so you are comparing the two things that usually decide it.
3. Pick a time.

What happens when you book depends on the listing

Not every practice is connected to Quokka in the same way, and the listing always says which kind you are looking at. This matters, because it decides what the times on the page are worth.

Unclaimed listings

We read the practice's public booking system to show indicative times and prices, but the practice has not claimed its profile. Times are sourced automatically and may be up to 24 hours old: Quokka can't confirm them. You finish the booking on the practice's own site.

Verified practices

The practice has claimed its listing and confirmed its details. Availability is refreshed from the practice and may be up to 24 hours old. Booking still finishes on their site.

Verified and connected practices

The practice has connected its practice-management system to Quokka. You get live availability straight from the practice diary, and you book and pay here in one go.

Why we show times we cannot book

Because the alternative is showing you nothing. A practice that has not signed up to Quokka still has a diary, and knowing they have Thursday morning free is useful even if the last click happens on their website.

What we will not do is let a time we cannot vouch for look like one we can, hence the labels. If you would rather only see appointments bookable here and now, filter for them.

Paying

Where you book through Quokka, you pay at the point of booking and the price you see is the price of the appointment: we do not add a booking fee. Practices pay us a commission, and can pay for a membership. See about Quokka for how that works, including its effect on search order.

Where the listing hands you off to the practice's own site, payment is entirely between you and the practice, on their terms.

Changing or cancelling

For appointments booked through Quokka, use the link in your confirmation email. Cancellation terms are the practice's own (some charge for late cancellation) and are shown before you confirm.

For appointments booked on a practice's own site, contact the practice directly. We have no record of a booking we did not take.

If something looks wrong

Most listings are built automatically from what practices publish, so mistakes happen. If a price, a time or a clinician's details look wrong, tell us and we will look at it. If you run the practice, you can claim the listing and correct it yourself.
