Maite Delafin - The Family Osteopath

Maite Delafin provides osteopathy for adults, babies, children, teenagers, pregnant women and postnatal patients. Her practice, Maite Delafin - The Family Osteopath, is in Amersham.

Adult general osteopathy covers musculoskeletal and related complaints named by the practice. These include back pain, sciatica, joint pains, arthritic pain, shoulder and elbow pain, and fibromyalgia. It also covers hip and knee pain from osteoarthritis, generalised aches and pains, and uncomplicated mechanical neck pain. Other named areas include digestion problems, cervicogenic headache and migraine prevention.

The first adult appointment includes a health history and assessment. Treatment may involve massage, articulation, manipulation and stretching. Maite also gives advice on posture, exercise and lifestyle.

Postnatal osteopathy includes Mummy MOT assessments after vaginal or caesarean birth. The assessment looks at posture, core, abdominal muscles and pelvic floor function. It includes pelvic floor muscle assessment and screening for bladder, bowel or sexual dysfunction. Maite is trained and licensed to carry out the Mummy MOT. Postnatal care follow-up appointments are also available.

C-section and abdominal scar therapy is available from six to eight weeks after surgery. It is also offered for older scars. This service focuses on gentle tissue mobilisation around abdominal scars. Maite trained in scar therapy with Restore Scar Therapy and HLP Therapy.

Pregnancy care includes antenatal osteopathy, Pregnancy MOT appointments, pregnancy massage and postnatal massage. Antenatal osteopathy uses gentle hands-on techniques, including massage, articulation and stretching. It also includes advice on posture, movement and self-care.

Paediatric osteopathy is offered for babies, children and young people. For babies, the focus includes muscle tension linked with feeding, settling or favouring one side. For older children, care may include hands-on treatment, advice and simple home exercises. Maite may refer to a GP or another healthcare provider when needed.

Home visits are offered for postnatal osteopathy, paediatric osteopathy and Mum & Baby package appointments. They are limited to patients within 15 minutes' drive of the clinic. Parking must be available on the premises or just outside. Treatments are carried out in accordance with General Osteopathic Council practice standards.
