Oban Osteopathy

Oban Osteopathy treats musculoskeletal problems including back pain, neck and shoulder pain, headaches, sports injuries and joint problems. Care is provided by Amy Cotterell, a qualified and registered osteopath, for patients of different ages including babies, children, pregnant women, older people, office professionals and sports players.

Osteopathic care here uses assessment and hands-on treatment, including movement, stretching, targeted deep tissue massage and manipulation of muscles and joints. On a first visit, Amy takes a medical history, asks about general health and symptoms, and carries out a physical examination with consent. This may include observing movement and palpating the area causing concern, and she may review test results, X-rays or scan reports if available.

The practice offers osteopathic treatment plans that may include manual therapy, exercises to do independently and lifestyle changes. If Amy considers that osteopathic treatment would not be appropriate for the condition, she may refer the patient to a GP or another suitably qualified professional, with notes explaining her diagnosis.

Cranial osteopathy is offered as a gentle, non-invasive treatment and is used in the treatment of babies and children. For paediatric appointments, the practice suggests bringing the child's red book and any relevant medical documentation. Osteopathic treatment is also offered for expectant mothers during pregnancy and after childbirth.

Amy is registered with the General Osteopathic Council and is a member of the Institute of Osteopathy and the Sutherland Society of Cranial Osteopathy. The practice is also registered with SimplyHealth, PruHealth, Cigna and Aviva.
