The Hair and Scalp Clinic

The Hair and Scalp Clinic has one London site and is the trichology practice of Consultant Trichologist Shirley McDonald. The clinic provides care for hair and scalp concerns, with consultations, clinical treatments, treatment plans and follow-up consultations available in person or virtually.

Shirley McDonald is a registered trichologist and Fellow of the Institute of Trichologists. She has over 30 years of experience in the hair care industry, was recognised with a fellowship in 2023 for her research on scarring hair loss, and is a clinical tutor for the Institute of Trichologists. She is also a biomedical PhD research student at the University of West London, focusing on person-centred health.

The clinic sees people with alopecia, dandruff, psoriasis, genetic hair loss and diffuse hair loss. It also covers male pattern baldness, female pattern hair loss, patchy hair loss including alopecia areata, diffuse hair shedding, seborrhoeic eczema or dermatitis, contact dermatitis, scaling scalp conditions, itchy scalp, folliculitis and scalp infections.

Shirley works with all hair types, including Afro-textured hair. Her approach to trichology takes account of lifestyle, diet, hair care and other factors that may contribute to a person’s hair or scalp condition.

Appointment types include initial consultation, treatment and follow-up consultation, with virtual options for initial and follow-up consultations.
