Connect Jump
Approve Quokka inside Jump and your diary connects itself. It takes about a minute, there is no key to copy, and nothing is visible to patients until you choose to go live.

Connecting Jump lets patients book your real availability on Quokka. We read your diary each time someone opens your profile, and any booking made on Quokka is written straight back into Jump as an appointment. You carry on working in Jump exactly as you do now.
New to Jump, or comparing record systems rather than connecting one you already run? Jump is an electronic health record built for UK private general practice, with SNOMED CT coded notes and dm+d prescribing. There is a fuller description in What Jump is, and how it connects to Quokka.
You approve the connection inside Jump, under your own login. There is no key to generate, copy or paste: you will see exactly what Quokka is asking for, and you can withdraw it at any time.
Before you start
You need to be an Administrator or in Management in Jump. Those are the two roles that can connect an app. If you are not one of them, the approval screen will say so and tell you who to ask: nothing breaks, and you have not done anything wrong.
It is worth checking three things first, because they decide how your listing looks:
- Your clinicians exist in Jump under the names you want patients to see
- Your appointment templates have their normal durations set
- At least one location has a full address, including a postcode
Note
A location without a postcode cannot appear in local search results. Patients search by area, so this is usually the difference between being found and not.
Approve it in Jump
In your Quokka portal, open Connect your practice system, choose Jump, and click Approve in Jump. You will be taken to Jump and asked to sign in if you are not already.
Jump then shows you what you are agreeing to, in plain terms:
| Quokka will be able to | Quokka will not be able to see |
|---|---|
| See your appointment types, availability and bookings | Consultations, notes and documents |
| Create and cancel appointments in your diary | Anything belonging to another practice |
| Create a patient record when someone books for the first time | Your Jump login |
Click Connect Quokka Health and Jump sends you straight back to Quokka, connected.
Note
Approving creates one API key for Quokka inside Jump, which you will find under Settings → Developers → API keys. You never have to handle it. Deleting it there stops the connection immediately: that is how you disconnect.
Check what came across
The first sync takes a minute or two. When it finishes you will have three things to review.
Locations
Every Jump location becomes a Quokka location. Check the addresses are the ones you want patients to see and travel to: if you rent a room inside a larger clinic, this is where to make sure the address is right. A location with no address in Jump will show as No address provided, and needs one before it can appear in local search.
Clinicians
Only clinicians who are active in Jump are brought across. Each one needs a type: private GP, physiotherapist, and so on: before they can appear in search.
Appointment types
Your Jump appointment templates come across with their durations. Patients do not search for "New Patient Consultation 30min", so each one is matched to a Quokka category and given the price a patient pays when booking online. Until a type is matched and switched on, it is not bookable.
What we read, and how often
| What | How often |
|---|---|
| Locations, clinicians and appointment templates | Nightly, and whenever you re-sync |
| Available appointment times | Live, each time a patient opens your profile |
| Bookings made on Quokka | Written into Jump immediately |
| Changes you make in Jump | Checked hourly |
That last row is worth knowing about. If you cancel a Quokka booking in your own Jump diary, we find out and stop treating it as live: you do not have to tell us twice. Not every practice system can tell us that, so it is one of the advantages of being on Jump.
We never change your availability, your working hours or your appointment templates, and we never write to a patient record beyond creating the appointment itself.
If something is not right
- Jump said you do not have permission to connect an app. Only an Administrator or someone in Management can approve it. Ask a colleague with one of those roles to click the button: they can start from their own Quokka portal, or you can send them the link.
- Nothing appeared at all. Give the first sync a couple of minutes, then use Re-sync in your Quokka portal. If it is still empty, disconnect and approve it again.
- Some clinicians are missing. Jump only sends clinicians who are currently active.
- You want to disconnect. Delete the Quokka Health (marketplace) key in Jump under Settings → Developers → API keys. The connection stops immediately and your listing stops taking bookings.
If you would rather use an API key
The older way of connecting (generating a key in Jump and pasting it into Quokka) still works, behind Use an API key instead on the same screen. It is worth knowing why we no longer lead with it: a pasted key is not tied to the practice pasting it, so a key belonging to one practice could be attached to another by mistake. Approving inside Jump makes that impossible, because the practice is established by whoever signs in to approve.
