What Jump is, and how it connects to Quokka
Jump is a UK electronic health record built for private GP practice. If your clinic already runs it, connecting to Quokka takes one approval inside Jump and no API key.

If your practice runs Jump, your diary can take online bookings from Quokka today. There is no export, no double entry and no key to copy: you approve Quokka once inside Jump, and from that point patients see your real availability and their bookings land in your own diary as appointments.
This page covers what Jump is, for anyone comparing record systems, and what the connection between the two does.
What Jump is
Jump is an electronic health record (EHR) built for UK private general practice, rather than an NHS system with a private mode bolted on. It is a leading choice for private GP clinics that want the clinical record, the diary, the prescription and the invoice in one place, and it is one of the six practice systems Quokka reads.
The clinical side is coded rather than free text. Consultation notes are structured against SNOMED CT, the clinical terminology the NHS records in, so a problem list stays searchable and auditable instead of turning into a decade of typed paragraphs. Prescribing runs on the NHS dictionary of medicines and devices (dm+d), with interaction and allergy checking as the prescription is written.
Around that sit the things a private clinic needs and an NHS record system rarely provides:
- Invoicing and payment, with Stripe and Xero connected
- Online scheduling and a patient-facing booking page
- Video consultations without a separate subscription
- Documents, letters and mail merge, with e-signatures
- Patient messaging by SMS and email
- Results, medications, letters and notes on one patient record
- Structured migration from Semble, for practices moving across
On the compliance side Jump is Cyber Essentials Plus certified, meets the NHS Data Security and Protection Toolkit, hosts UK data in the UK, and keeps the record in the shape a CQC inspection expects to find it. The full list is on the Jump features page, with plans on Jump pricing and a walkthrough available at book a demo.
Note
Quokka and Jump are separate products run by the same founder. We say so here because you should know it when reading a page on one site that recommends the other. Quokka connects to six practice systems and treats them the same way: Jump gets no ranking advantage, no cheaper commission and no priority in search.
What the connection does
An EHR that can be read from outside is what makes real-time booking possible. Without it, an online booking page is a form that emails somebody, and the practice keys the appointment in by hand. With it, the times a patient sees are the gaps in your actual diary.
| What Quokka does | When |
|---|---|
| Reads your clinicians, locations and appointment templates | Nightly, and on demand |
| Reads your available appointment times | Live, each time a patient opens your profile |
| Writes a Quokka booking into your Jump diary | Immediately, as a confirmed appointment |
| Notices a booking you cancelled in Jump | Jump tells us as it happens |
That last row is the one worth pausing on. Most practice systems will let us read a diary, and almost none of them will tell us when the practice changes it. If a receptionist cancels a Quokka appointment in Jump, we hear about it from Jump rather than finding out when the patient turns up. Jump is the one that pushes the change to us as it happens, rather than waiting for us to ask again.
Quokka never edits your availability, your working hours or your appointment templates, and never writes to a patient record beyond creating the appointment.
Connecting takes about a minute
You approve the connection inside Jump, under your own login, as an Administrator or someone in Management. Jump shows you exactly what Quokka is asking for before you agree, and deleting the key it creates disconnects us straight away.
The step-by-step version, including what to check first and what to do when a clinician is missing, is in Connect Jump.
If you are not on Jump
Quokka reads Cliniko, Hero Health, Semble, Nookal, Dentally and Jump, and a practice on any of them connects the same way. Practices on none of them can still be listed and still be found: we read public availability where a booking page exposes it, and patients are handed off to whatever booking route you already use.
Practices weighing up a change of record system, rather than a change of booking page, are the ones who should read what Jump does differently.
