Connect Nookal
Generate an API key in Nookal and paste it into Quokka. It takes about two minutes, and nothing is visible to patients until you choose to go live.

Connecting Nookal lets patients book your real availability on Quokka. We read your diary each time someone opens your profile, and any booking made on Quokka is written straight back into Nookal as an appointment. You carry on working in Nookal exactly as you do now.
Before you start
You need to be an owner or manager in Nookal: API keys live under Setup, and other permission levels cannot see the page.
It is worth checking three things first, because they decide how your listing looks:
- Your practitioners exist in Nookal under the names you want patients to see, and are assigned to the locations they actually work at
- Your services have their normal durations and prices set
- Each location has a full address, including a postcode
Note
A service with no price cannot be booked on Quokka. We will not take a payment for an amount we are not sure about, so a £0 service is treated as "price missing" rather than "free".
Note
A location without a postcode cannot appear in local search results. Patients search by area, so this is usually the difference between being found and not.
Generate an API key
- In Nookal, go to Setup → Connections → API Keys
- Click Generate API Key
- Tick every location you want on Quokka
- Give the key a label (Quokka is fine) so you can recognise it later
- Switch its status on
- Click Save Changes, then copy the key
Watch out
There is no "all locations" option in Nookal: each one has to be ticked individually. If you open a new location later, come back and edit this key to include it, otherwise that location's availability will not appear on Quokka and nothing will tell you.
You do not need to tick any of the Additional Options (Clinical Notes, Invoices, Documents, Logos & Staff Photos). Quokka does not read clinical notes or documents, and leaving them unticked keeps the key's access as narrow as possible.
Paste it into Quokka
- In Quokka, go to Practice setup → Booking system
- Choose Nookal
- Paste the key and click Connect
We will find your locations, practitioners and services straight away, and show you what came across. Nothing is visible to patients until you publish your listing.
What happens next
- Your availability is read live. We ask Nookal each time a patient opens your profile, so a slot you have just filled in your own diary is not offered on Quokka.
- Bookings appear in Nookal as appointments, with the patient's details, against the right practitioner and service.
- Cancellations reach Nookal too. If a patient cancels on Quokka, the appointment is marked cancelled in your diary: it stays in your history rather than disappearing.
- We resync your practitioners and services every night, so a change you make in Nookal shows on Quokka the next day. If you need it sooner, use Resync on the booking system page.
If something looks wrong
No availability showing. The usual cause is the API key: check every location is ticked on it. After that, check the practitioner is rostered at that location in Nookal and that the service is offered there.
A service is missing. Nookal does not tell us which services you offer online, so we bring across everything active and you decide what patients see. Check the service is active, has a price, and is available at that location.
A practitioner is missing, or has no specialty. Nookal records a practitioner's speciality as free text, and a new Nookal account often just says "Practitioner". That does not tell us whether someone is a physiotherapist or an osteopath, so we leave it for a person to set rather than guessing: a wrong specialty on a named clinician is worse than none. Tell us and we will set it.
"That key was rejected." Nookal has had two different kinds of key. The one you want is under Setup → Connections → API Keys: if you have an older GraphQL key from an API OAuth Client, it will not work here. Generate a new API key using the steps above.
